Yellowstone National Park Opening Day June 26th!

May 26th, 2012

Yes!  Fishing season 2012 is here!  The opening on Yellowstone’s fishing season always gets us excited.  It marks the beginning of the fishing season in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, and this year looks to be one for the books.  The Firehole is in great shape with clear, good flows and is poised to have some strong hatches of Baetis and afternoon caddis.  The weather will be typical Memorial Day weekend weather; snow, rain, clouds and cool temperatures.   Be prepared for anything that mother nature may throw at you.  The Gibbon and Upper Madison in the park are also good possibilities this year.  Lewis Lake just iced off and the park service pushed the snow away from the boat put in, so I’m sure there will be some early season takers on this lake, last year it didn’t ice off until after June 20th!  The general fishing season in Yellowstone opens Saturday, June 26th, but keep in mind that Yellowstone Lake and the Yellowstone River do not open until June 15th.  We will have some good reports after the first couple of days, so check back to see how the opener went.  Have fun and enjoy the early season in YNP!
