Snake River Fishing Report 3/29/16

March 29th, 2016

April is right around the corner, and it looks like we will have some spring like temps this weekend. Fishing has been good on the warmer days, and will only get better from now until run off starts. Lots of midges out there, and I have even heard rumors or Skwalas on the water. Although I would think it would need to warm up a little more before we see these winter stone flies in large numbers. Look for the usual pods of rising fish. When targeting pods of rising fish, use smaller midge patterns, cluster midges, Griffiths Gnats, Parachute Adams, and don’t be scared to trail those small flies behind something big so you can at least see the fish you miss.   Try different size/color rubber legs and stone fly nymphs, I might trail a zebra midge, ice cream cone or a small mayfly pattern off the back.  Skip the fast summer riffles, and fish the insides, and medium fast seams. Where you find one fish you will find a bunch. Streamers can produce as well.  If wade fishing let them swing through the riffles and strip upstream in the slower water. Play around with size and color. Start big, go small. Start dark, then go light. Keep going till you find a happy medium. The trout will tell you what they like.

We are excited April is almost here. For a lot of us that means, skiing is over, and fishing is on its way.  We will have our Bakers dozen ( buy 12 get 13 free) going the day after the resort closes, so we can make room for our new flies. Come in next week and stock up!!!
