It’s been a great season in the Keys. The life on the sailboat really suits me well. Permit fishing here has been good and now the Tarpon are moving in, should be a blast. I look forward to the summer in Jackson, I hear the snow is melting and the fishing in April has been good. I’m glad it will be an earlier season than last year.

Big Sky Journal did a piece entitled “Seeking Troutopia” where Tom Bie, past Westbank Anglers guide and now famous editor in chief and founder of The Drake Magazine, gave a shout out to Dean Burton as his favorite guide in the valley. Dean knows his stuff and is one of the most fun guides in the area, come see for yourself and take him out for a day.

I am ready to get back to Jackson and do some fishing!!! Winter in Tahoe has been a little scarce this year, but the Steelheading was fun as always. I know Baker and the gang have been getting ready for the summer in between playing in all the POWDER Jackson Hole has gotten this winter, so this coming fishing season should be spectacular. Winter Guide Trip – Fishing in a winter wonderland

Dumping snow- who cares! What does an orthopedist do when on vacation in Jackson Hole and knows the risks of skiing all to well? Yeah, he goes fishing. In February. In the snow.

How was the fishing? It was good with nymphs, catching both Trout and Whitefish. A double nymph rig with a Parkins PR Muskrat along with an egg under an indicator was the most effective, especially in the slower runs with about 4′ of depth. Due to time constraints, the guide had to push down river right as they came to a run loaded with rising trout.

This is a great ime to get out on the river, with little to no crowds and weather dependant, the dry fly fishing can be spectacular. The nymphing almost always produces good results. Bad snow, stiff bones or just need a day off from the slopes – there are fishing opportunities to be had in the area.

The Lodge of Palisades Creek is currently running a special of $395 per day for full day, 1 or 2 anglers, on the South Fork of the Snake. Give Westbank Anglers a call to help you arrange your trip.

What a glorious fishing season we have had on the North Island. I am taking a bit of vacation and going rafting and salmon fishing through the Waiau Gorge, time to pull out the rowing skills again!

If you click the headline ‘Recent news and blog,’ you will be taken to all past posts in the archive. As you scroll down, you will see ‘recent fishing reports,’ check these out for the latest fishing conditions provided by our guides as well as the shop staff.
