Snake River Report - Jackson Hole

Flowing over 80 miles through the Jackson Hole Valley, the Snake River is the healthiest and most productive Cutthroat fishery in the US.  We offer float trips on the entire 80 miles starting in Grand Teton National Park all the way to Palisades Reservoir where the South Fork begins.

With March upon us people are starting to get the itch to go fishing.  With the days getting longer and the sun starting to shine, it is not a bad idea when you get a nice, warmish day.  So far this winter we have had over 480" of snow, a lot.  This bodes well for the coming season, as we need a normal year of water to recharge our system.  Currently, the Snake River is open to fishing, however, it is early season.  On a day where the temperature get to 35 degrees or more, the fishing can be good in the middle part of the day.  Anglers are taking fish on small mayfly attractors and smaller nymphs.  Some fish are slowely following streamers, but I would stick with a dry / dropper rig with a small soft hackle or zebra nymph.  You will need waders, jacket, hat and gloves, also, in order to access the river the best, you may want to think about snow shoes or cross country skis.  Stop by the shop for a fishing license or more information.     Lots of water in the Snake still, but flows will start dropping tomorrow. The fishing has been surprisingly better in the past few days and should really turn around with the water being dropped. Fall fishing is finally upon us and expect great results. More fish are starting to eat on top and the streamer fishing is still great. With the water still a bit high, it's a good idea to stick with streamers if you want to produce fish. Congrats to Capt. Dean Burton for winning "Top Guide" this year in Jackson's annual One Fly Tournament. Nice work Captain!!more...
