Well, cabin fever is catching up to some folks and more and more people have been migrating over to fish the South Fork and the Henry’s Fork. The nymphing below Palisades’s reservoir has been productive and on certain days the midge fishing on both rivers has been producing some quality fishing.  The good news is that even though are snow pack for this winter is below normal, the regional lakes and reservoirs  still have plenty of water from previous seasons. So if you legs are sore from skiing and you would like to take day off from the mountain, there are some options to get a line wet.  If you have any questions please contact us here at the shop(307-733-6483, info@westbank.com).... more...

Well the snow is melting fast and the warmer weather has made for some good fishing lately. The Snake has been fishing well the past week and some of boat ramps have been plowed so a boat can be launched at certain locations.   The nymphing has still been the most productive method but on these warm days, fish have been looking up for an occasional dry fly.  I also encourage you individuals who are venturing out for a float to remember we are still in winter flows so floats will take longer than some are use to. If you want t get some fishing in before run-off takes place the next month or so is a great time to take advantage of a nice warm spring day. If you have any questions please call or stop by the shop. Good fishin Matt Elliott... more...

Well it’s November and we are moving into winter fishing mode. If you still have that craving to go out for a day remember to get your warm gear out. The best time for fishing this part of the year is during the warmest part of the day. In the winter months, keep your eyes open for midge hatches on warm days and have a few nymphs in the box in case when there is not much surface action. If you are coming out to Jackson and don’t want to bring all of your fishing gear we have all of the gear you need here at the shop. We are open Monday-Friday this entire winter. If you have any fishing questions at all please contact us here at the shop (307-733-6483) or stop by on your way out to the mountain. Stay warm and good fishing Matt Elliottmore...

Snake River

The weather is changing quickly and fall fishing is upon us. They are predicting rain and snow this week so if you are heading out make sure to have warm clothes. The last thing you want to happen on a great day of fishing is that you get cold and fishing becomes uncomfortable. The good news is that with this dramatic drop in temperature I would expect BWO’s and Mahogany’s to be out and about as long as the wind stays calm. If I was going out in the next day I would also concentrate a lot of my time streamer fishing with various types of streamer patterns. I would assume that this weather change should also turn the streamer bite on as well. If you have any questions at all please contact us here at the shop. Don’t let this nasty weather turn you away from a day of fishing. Because as many of you know the best fishing can take place in the worst weather. Good Fishin Matt Elliott... more...

The Snake is on fire and dry fly fishing is great on the entire river. Even though we have had one of the coldest summers on record the hopper fishing has still been fairly productive. The surprise of the season on the Snake has to be the PMD activity. The PMD hatches have been better than normal and the fish have been eating all life cycles of PMD’s. Never the less I wouldn’t be surprised that the PMD hatches start to give way to Blue Wings and Mahogany’s in the near future. One little trick to always being prepared for different hatches, is to carry a variation of markers. By doing this you can change the body color of a yellow PMD and in a couple minutes have a modified PMD pattern that now has a blue wing body color. At times this little modification can be just enough to fool a smart cutthroat. Keep checking the reports for any new updates. Good fishin Matt Elliott more...
