Green River / Pinedale Report

The Pinedale area is home to many streams and lakes.  The highlights are the Green River and the New Fork.  The Green is a great river for all, while the New Fork is for the more seasoned angler, 18 hour days are not uncommon.  These smaller and lesser known fisheries offer some of the best Brown Trout fishing in our region.

The bug activity on the Green should be similar to the Snake. BWO’s and Mahogeny’s should be out and about and the streamer fishing should be picking up. The flows on the Green are 198 CFS so floating most sections is a bit of a challenge. The Browns should also be on the move in certain sections especially in this nasty weather.   The good news is that it is almost the first of August and the Green still has plenty of water. I would expect the river to continue dropping slowly and I would keep an eye on the flows before heading south.  With the water becoming a bit warmer due to these warm summer days, the Green has been fishing much better in the morning then in the afternoon. The PMD’s and Yellow Sally’s have been popping mid-mornings and on the right day fishing has been great. If you are fortunate enough to fish the Green on an over cast day multiple sizes and colors of drakes have been spotted depending on the section of the river. I also wouldn’t be afraid to throw some terrestrial patterns tight on the bank since it is just about August and hoppers are out and about. We have some new hopper patterns here at the shop so don’t forget to stop by before going to the Green. Keep checking our fishing reports for any new updates. Good fishin Matt Elliottmore...
