Green River / Pinedale Report

The Pinedale area is home to many streams and lakes.  The highlights are the Green River and the New Fork.  The Green is a great river for all, while the New Fork is for the more seasoned angler, 18 hour days are not uncommon.  These smaller and lesser known fisheries offer some of the best Brown Trout fishing in our region.

The flows on the Green are as low as we have seen them in some time. The current flows at Warren Bridge are at 163CFS. This is too low to float most sections and if you are attempting to float make sure you have a low profile boat. If you still have the desire to venture down south I think the morning fishing has been more productive then the afternoon. However, the fishing on the green has been fairly inconsistent at this -low water flows so if you are looking for consistent fishing you might look to fish elsewhere like the Snake in Jackson or the South Fork in Idaho. The Green continues to fish well and the grey drakes are still popping on those days the wind doesn’t blow. The good news as well is that the Snake is starting to fish better which has alleviated some of the pressure from to many boats venturing down to Sublette County. The flows on the Green dropped a bit so fishing is getting a bit more technical with the flows dropping. The Yellow Sally’s and PMD’s are popping on certain sections and some bigger fish are looking up in the late morning hours. The water temps are also climbing on hot days which seems to affect fishing when the water temps get to warm. So, you might think of leaving a bit earlier if the weather looks like it is going to be super warm the day you are going fishing. We have some new patterns here at the shop for fishing the Green so stop on by before heading that direction. If you have any other fishing questions please call us here at our shop at 307-733-6483. Unti, next time good fishin. Matt Elliott more...
